It’s hard to believe that the end-of-year period is nearly upon us, and whilst I’m always sad to see the slower pace of winter retreat, I’m really looking forward to the events I’ve got happening over the rest of this year.
We’ve got everything from mending workshops for Seniors Week in MerriBek and preserving workshops in Bayside, to low-waste gardening in Dandenong and circular kitchen skills in Frankston. And then there’s the festive crafts and low-waste celebrations events, which are always a hit.
If you’d like to see one of these events in your area, let me know and I’ll get in touch with your council, as I’ve got a handful of spots available to take on one or two more events before closing the books for the year.

BASIC DARNING. Glenroy Makerspace, Glenroy, Tuesday 6th October, 1-3pm – Learn about simple, effective ways to lower your environmental impact by using basic mending skills to repair clothes and look after the clothes you love.
AUTHOR TALK – EVERYDAY PERMACULTURE. Rosebud Library, Friday 9th October 11am-12pm – Find out why I wrote about permaculture living in a rental, and how Everyday Permaculture can help you make sustainable actions part of your everyday.
PRESERVING YOUR HARVEST. Sandybeach Community Centre, Saturday 17th October, 10:30am-12:30pm – learn about different ways to preserve your harvest, and have a go at making a quick, simple preserve to take home with you.
LOW-WASTE GARDENING. Heritage Hill Museum & Gardens, Wednesday 21st October, 6-7:30pm – Learn about why and how to reduce waste in your garden, then make some plastic-free garden goodies to take home.
LOW-WASTE COOKING. Frankston South Community Centre, Friday 13th November, 1-2:30pm – Learn how to make the most of your food with scraptastic thinking, clever cooking and top tips on storing & preserving food. Includes tasters of several delicious examples.
FESTIVE CRAFTS WITHOUT THE WASTE. TWO dates & locations
– Nunawading Library, Nunawading, Saturday 28th November, 10:30am-12:30pm
– AND REALM Library, Ringwood, Thursday 3rd December, 5:30-7:30pm
Learn how to make gorgeous eco-conscious, sustainable decorations using upcycled clothing.
LOW-WASTE CELEBRATIONS. Manningham Function Centre, Doncaster, Tuesday 1st December, 7-8:30pm Learn about low-waste ways to celebrate the festive season, including gift and wrapping ideas, waste-savvy recipes, and eco-friendly decorating tips. Some homemade festive snacks will be supplied during the presentation.
